Five-member Delegation Led by Vice President of Jiangsu University Visit Yamaguchi University
A delegation from China’s Jiangsu University comprising Vice President Zhang Jijian and five other academics and staff members visited Yoshida Campus and Tokiwa Campus (Faculty of Engineering) on Friday June 20.
As part of the global competency education, Jiangsu University and Yamaguchi University have been working together on the Summer Program for Innovative Engineering Design (SPIED), a two-week exchange program for students from Japan, China and Korea. Intended for engineering students, this program has been implemented since AY2013 with the aim of promoting a better understanding of activities and cooperation in the international arena and increasing awareness about the continuous upskilling by exploring the process of creating and designing based on given themes. During the visit, the delegation confirmed the progress of the preparation for the SPIED 2014 and the future cooperative framework between both universities.
Following a tour of Yamaguchi City, the delegation paid a courtesy call on President Oka and Vice President Miura (International and Regional Cooperation) on Yoshida Campus. In the meeting, Professor Zongwei Jiang of Graduate School of Science and Engineering, who is in charge of the SPIED on behalf of Yamaguchi University, explained the background of interaction between Yamaguchi University and Jiangsu University, and the SPIED. Subsequently, President Oka welcomed the visitors and expressed his expectations for exchange promotion between the two universities in his address. In response, Vice President Zhang Jijian said, “I hope to continue to collaborate on the SPIED. Further, I also would like to initiate a discussion on the implementation of the double degree program with Yamaguchi University.”
The visitors then headed for Tokiwa Campus and visited the Faculty of Engineering-affiliated Global Engineering Development Center.
Yamaguchi University hopes that the exchange with Jiangsu University will be developed further from the SPIED in the wake of this visit.
